Holiday Mail for Heroes Program

This year A M Royal is proud to be participating in the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes Program, which is supported by Pitney Bowes. This program gathers holiday cards for service members, veterans and their families.

This is a great cause, and A M Royal will do our part to remember those who have served or, are serving our country. From Veteran's Day, November 11, through Thanksgiving weekend, you can send a holiday card to a service member, through our website. No need to purchase a card, you just write your wishes and sign your name; we will transfer the information to a card and deliver it to the program.

Details will be available soon on our website, so please check back and participate in a very easy way to let our troops know we support them.

Now we know why the Maytag repairman is so lonely.

Over the years we have all heard about the lonely Maytag repairman. And if he has many customers like Jane Thompson, this may be the reason why. It seems Mrs. Thompson from Sand Springs, Oklahoma, has until recently been using a Maytag washer and dryer which she received in 1957. That’s right, 1957.
It seems she was having a problem with her dryer…the door latch would not stay closed. When her daughter called to have it repaired, Maytag could hardly believe their ears. A 52 year old working washer and dryer…did I mention it was pink? They offered her a replacement pair so they could put her set in the Maytag Museum in Michigan. It took some persuading but she finally agreed to the exchange, under the condition that if it doesn’t work as well, they will return her original pair to her.

Now, we doubt the new set will last 52 years, but the Maytag brand is built on dependability, so we feel confident she will enjoy her new Centennial Washer and Dryer.

Mold and Mildew

We are all aware of the potential dangers of mold and mildew in our homes. But did you know that there is a difference between the two?

They both are commonly found in the same warm, damp environments, but they actually are different types of fungi.

Mildew is what is usually found in showers and textiles, while mold is more often found in food. Both can be a problem for individuals with respiratory conditions. If your home has a more than average amount of moisture content, you might think about installing a dehumidifier.

Portable units make easy to take care of the problem. Whether you connect a dehumidifier to a nearby drain or empty the bucket as needed, using a dehumidifier will make your home drier and healthier for the whole family

The Amana D530M is a 30 pint per day basement dehumidifier that is Energy Star Qualified. The D530 has 2 fan speeds, a washable filter, an external drain hose connection and casters for easy portability

GE Energy Star Refrigerator/NJ Recycling Program

In the market for a new refrigerator or freezer? We all want to go a little more green in our purchases, both for the environment…and for our bottom line. A couple of things to keep in mind before updating.

A refrigerator can account for more than 20% of the energy used in your home, so thinking about energy ratings can make a big difference in energy usage long term.

The difference in kilowatt usage of older refrigerators and models made after 1990 is extreme. For example, a 20 year-old refrigerator or freezer consumes an average of 1,500 kilowatt hours annually, compared to 400-500 kilowatt hours for appliances manufactured after 1990. Energy star qualified appliances give you even more efficiency, and even lower utility bills.

Now, there is no reason to compromise style for energy efficiency. Energy efficient models have all the bells, whistles and design of other high energy using models.

For example the GE PFCS1PJYSA: This 20.8 Cu. Ft. Energy Star French Door refrigerator is counter-depth, has an external filtered water dispenser, a multi-flow air system, external digital temperature display, LED lighting and high-end styling.

It is available as shown in Stainless Steel, as well as Black (PFCF1PJYBB) and White (PFCF1PJYWW.

Attention New Jersey Residents: Refrigerator/Freezer Recycling Program

New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program has partnered with JACO Environmental to reduce CO² emissions and save energy by recycling old refrigerators and freezers. This program offers $30 cash back for recycling responsibly. You can upgrade to a more energy efficient product, thereby saving money in electrical costs…while at the same time getting a cash refund for an old refrigerator or freezer. The best part is the old unit is picked-up for FREE.

There are some restrictions, so for more information visit http://www.njcleanenergy.com/ or call NJCEP at 877-270-3520.

Recycling in this program reduces about 95% of the materials used in the manufacturing of each refrigerator or freezer and safely disposes of the toxins and ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbon gases from foam insulation. A big step toward making the world a environmentally happy place.
